This is a really old painting, but I like to keep it around because it's one of the very first watercolor paintings I ever did. I worked in oils for a long time but never felt an connection. Later, I developed a pretty bad allergic reaction to oil paints and solvents and dropped painting entirely for a while.
My grandfather-in-law, Allen Richards, had been a member of the Watercolor Gang in San Antonio, and I gratefully inherited a lot of his tools when he passed. When I had the chance to finally go back to the Art Student's League, I dragged his brushes out and took the plunge.
My style has changed several times over the years, but I still like what I did with this, despite not knowing what I was doing at the time.
